As I’m sure you all know and have heard many times before, water is beyond essential for our health. It is needed for every single bodily process known to maintain human life, and yet, so many do not consume even close to the recommended daily intake. So many of us are dehydrated and don’t even know it! Did you know once you feel the feeling of thirst, your body is already dehydrated?! If you constantly feel thirsty, that’s a prime indication you may not be drinking enough! Water is important for so many reasons:
Water Enhances Weight Loss
Water can speed up the metabolism and fight the feelings of hunger and exhaustion. It can also help with water retention, and inflammation. It has been shown to be extremely beneficial to drink 1-2 glasses of water about half an hour prior to eating. Sometimes we actually mistake thirst for hunger!
Water Fights Constipation and Helps the Body Detox
Increasing water can enhance the detoxification process by moving waste along our intestines. Without this, toxins accumulate in our intestines which can lead to numerous diseases, and weight gain.
Increased Muscle
Body cells, such as muscle cells, that aren’t hydrated properly aren’t able to perform or build to their best ability. This decreases not only performance in the gym, but also the ability to increase muscle mass.
Glowing Skin
Water hydrates all layer of the body, including the skin. This prevents dryness, and wrinkles. Since water is also needed for detoxification, and skin breakouts can be caused by an accumulation of toxins, water can help with acne and breakouts as well.
Lubrication of Joints
As stated above, water hydrates all parts of the body, including the joints. This can aid in bringing down inflammation and reducing joint pain. There have been substantial improvements shown with increasing water in those with arthritis.
Water needs vary depending on weight, height, age, and activity level. It may also change depending on medications, supplements, and pre-existing medical conditions. Speak to a health practitioner if you’re interested in finding out just how much water you need to reach your goals!
