No one enjoys being under constant stress. Not only is it mentally exhausting, but it takes a massive toll on our physical bodies. I hope these few tips can help you manage your stress, and feel your absolute best!
- Stop and take some deep breaths – this is the cheapest way to manage stress, yet so effective. Try taking 10 deep belly breaths to lower cortisol and bring awareness to the present moment. Though you may be feeling stressed mentally, this helps calm the physical body.
- Adaptogens – These are metabolic regulators that have been known to help our bodies adapt to physical and psychological stress. When under stress, our adrenal glands become overworked. Adaptogens help support these glands. Some awesome adaptogens include ashwagandha, holy basil, rhodiola, and licorice root.
- B – Complex – B Vitamins are the first vitamin depleted when under stress. They are needed for our nervous system, and commonly known as an anti-stress vitamin. They support our adrenals and give us a boost of energy which we may need in times of stress.
- Healthy Diet (antioxidants) – Stress causes all nutrients to be depleted, which is why it is so important to eat a nourishing diet high in vitamins and minerals. Stress also causes free radical formation which increases cellular damage. We need a constant supply of antioxidants to fight these free radicals. These can be found in fruits and vegetables. There are also tons of antioxidant supplements available.
- Limit Coffee to one per day – Caffeine increases cortisol and adrenaline levels in the body. This can lead to hormonal imbalance which can negatively impact mood, sleep, cravings, weight regulation and so much more! Try consuming a maximum of one cup of coffee per day to feel less stressed.
